The current requirements for the State of
Texas Journeyman Electrician’s license are 4 years or 8,000 hours of
On-The-Job Training under
the
supervision of a Master Electrician. The current requirements for the State of
Texas Master Electrician’s license are 6 years or 12,000 hours of
On-The-Job Training
under the supervision of
a Master Electrician, and you must hold a Journeyman’s license for at least two
years. Both must
also pass an exam given by PSI Examination Services.

The Journeyman Electrician exam consists
of 80 open book questions with a four hour time limit, and the Master
Electrician exam consists of
100 open book questions with a five hour time limit.
Both exams must be passed with at least a 75. The 2008 National Electrical
Code Book
is the only approved reference book allowed in the exam.

can be taken at any of four PSI computerized exam
sites in Houston.
This course provides review on the
subjects listed above; however the student must have extensive practice in
looking up general code questions
to finish the test in the required time. Practice code
questions for home study will be given, as well as in class. Review
pamphlets written by
Carl Buchanan will be supplied with the course; however
each student must bring their own copy of the 2008 National Electrical Code
Book
and a non-programmable calculator.
