The current requirements for the State of Texas Journeyman Electrician’s license are 8,000 hours of experience under the supervision of a Master Electrician. The current requirements for the State of Texas Master Electrician’s license are 12,000 hours under the supervision of a Master Electrician. Both must pass an exam given by an approved testing agency. The Master Electrician exam consists of 100 open book questions and the Journeyman Electrician exam consists of 80 open book questions. The 2008 National Electrical Code Book is the only reference book allowed in the exam.

 

This course provides review on the subjects listed above; however the student must have extensive practice in looking up the general code questions to finish the test in the required time. Practice code study questions for home study will be given. A calculations workbook is supplied with the course, but each student must have a 2008 National Electrical Code Book and a non-programmable calculator.

 

The exam can be taken at an I.C.C. proctored exam site or on computer at an approved Pearson Vue, www.pearsonvue.com/icc, testing site.
